Transforming An Aircraft Hangar Into A Celebration with Samaritan’s Purse

aircraft

Samaritan’s Purse is a faith-based organization that focuses on humanitarian relief in all corners of the world. To accomplish their mission, they use aircraft to deliver critical supplies to desperate and hurting families in need.

After 217 global missions, delivering more than 9 million pounds of life-saving cargo, it was time for their primary DC-8 aircraft to retire and the new model to take over. Technical Elements has a long-standing working relationship with Samaritan’s Purse, and we were honored to be part of this event and were able to accomplish a lot:

  • Produce a large-scale event in a unique location
  • Deliver custom lighting and AV solutions
  • Logistical and production services for a seamless experience

What Were The Key Goals of This Event?

This was a one-time event held at the Samaritan’s Purse Airlift Response Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The key goal was to honor the sheer scale of the life-saving relief the DC-8 delivered after natural disasters, conflicts, and humanitarian crises, and to share stories from the front lines over its 10 years in service.

The secondary goal was to dedicate the newly commissioned Boeing 767 aircraft after the inaugural relief mission to Gaza. The newer, more modern aircraft is much larger than its predecessor and expands the non-profit’s capacity to respond rapidly and efficiently wherever needed around the world.

What Were The Challenges This Event Faced?

The event was held in an aircraft hangar, which required a professional ear to manage the sound dynamics effectively. However, there were no truly significant challenges with this event, as the two teams, Technical Elements and Samaritan’s Purse, operate together like a well-oiled machine.

What Was Technical Elements’ Strategic Approach To The Goals and Challenges?

This was a large-scale operation that leveraged the full Technical Elements team. The aircraft itself provided a unique background and stage setting. Our expert skills were put to good use creating an immersive and memorable experience, including:

  • Early Planning and Ideation
  • Full-stack Event Production
  • Custom Lighting and AV solutions
  • Provided Equipment
  • On-Site Management

The Results: Event Outcomes and Client Feedback

This was a celebratory event, with a focus on highlighting the good the organization was empowered to do through the use of the old aircraft unit and on sharing the vision for the new one.

The Samaritan’s Purse is a high-level organization with high standards for everything from planning to venue cleanliness. The event organizers were happy with the contributions of the Technical Elements team, our processes, and our ability to deliver on outcomes.

How To Replicate These Outcomes For Your Event

If you’re planning an event this year, ideation, planning, and strategy should start now. In keeping with event trend projections, creating engaging attendee experiences should be priority number one.[1]

Keep these tips in mind as you plan:

  • Bring in professional production help as early as possible
  • Go for impact and don’t compromise on AV, lighting, or design
  • Incorporate innovative tech tools to boost immersion and engagement
  • The venue should match the vision, not the other way around

Key Takeaways and Next Steps
